Representing GEAPP were Ms. Sunita Dubey, Chief Representative, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh, National Coordination Director of GEAPP Vietnam.

The workshop was also attended by Dr. Cindy Tiangco, Director, Emerging Areas, Energy Sector Office, Asian Development Bank (ADB); Dr. Priyank Lathwal, Energy Specialist at the World Bank (WB); Mr. Nguyen Dinh Quang, Founder and Deputy Director of Selex Motors; Mr. Nguyen Anh Vu, Senior Business Development Manager at Huawei; and a representative from the Department of Climate Change – Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

The workshop aimed to share and discuss initial proposals for Petrolimex's energy transition plan, including technical and financial assessments of integrated solutions such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), rooftop solar, and EV charging stations; business models for two-wheeler battery swapping stations; as well as emission reduction financing mechanisms like public-private partnerships and blended finance.

Speaking at the workshop, Petrolimex Chairman Pham Van Thanh emphasised: “In our role as a cornerstone of the nation's energy sector, Petrolimex profoundly understands that our responsibility extends beyond ensuring current energy security; we must also be at the forefront of shaping Vietnam's green energy future. We greatly appreciate the practical support from GEAPP and believe these findings will be instrumental in helping the Group formulate its strategy, develop pilot projects, and gradually scale them up across the entire system.”

Panel discussion on the role of energy transition in businesses’ sustainability

On behalf of GEAPP, Ms. Sunita Dubey, Chief Representative of GEAPP Vietnam, praised Petrolimex for its pioneering role in evolving from a traditional oil and gas business to a sustainable energy provider.

Petrolimex is taking a very proactive approach to finding the right energy transition pathway. This is not just a theoretical exercise; it is deeply practical – towards the goal of achieving net-zero by 2050, she said.

"We truly appreciate their spirit of collaboration and their commitment to implementing the proposals that have emerged from this study,” she said.

The workshop brings together over 100 delegates, including representatives from Government agencies, international organisations, businesses and leading experts  in the field of energy transition

The workshop is part of a series of collaborative activities between Petrolimex and GEAPP following the signing of a Letter of Cooperation between the two parties in August 2024. In addition to the presentation of research findings from consultant groups, the event also featured a panel discussion with representatives from organisations and businesses such as ADB, Huawei, and Selex Motors on the opportunities and challenges in Vietnam's energy transition journey.

This workshop is a significant step for Petrolimex to realise its vision of becoming a leading energy corporation in Vietnam, providing green, high-quality, and environmentally friendly energy products. This vision is built on a foundation of Revolution 4.0 technology and comprehensive digital transformation, and contributes to the promotion of clean energy infrastructure in Vietnam.
